We focus on high quality ingredients and handcrafted recipes.
We use real fruits in our syrups and make syrups from scratch whenever we can. We also use real tea and real dairy.
We make our boba completely from scratch, which you will almost never see anywhere else. That’s why you’ll notice our boba isn’t black– we don’t add any dyes! It’s just brown sugar, water, and tapioca flour.
Our #1 priority isn’t the health/nutrition of ingredients, but it’s important to have it whenever we can.
Our #1 priority is the quality of the overall drink and ingredients. For example, one of the only drinks we don’t make from scratch is our taro milk tea. Although we love things to be as natural as possible, the flavor of an actual taro root is nothing like what others are familiar with when they come to a boba shop for taro milk tea. The powder enhances its sweetness and creates a creaminess and flavors that people are familiar with. When we experimented with real taro, we could only make it with a specific ripeness, and the flavors only came through after using a LOT of sugar and even then, the texture was unpleasantly thick and starchy. However, we still like to keep it as natural as we possibly can without affecting flavor, so we still use looseleaf Early Grey tea and real dairy 🙂
Since we will be prepping most drinks at a commercial kitchen and pouring drinks at the events, we cannot adjust anything. However, we will have oatmilk as an option for our 2 milk based drinks (brown sugar boba and Korean strawberry milk) and will occasionally prep oatmilk options for some milk teas.
For our milk teas, we use regular dairy. However, we will have oatmilk as an option for our 2 milk based drinks (brown sugar boba and Korean strawberry milk) and will occasionally prep oatmilk options for some milk teas.
We will have 1 size, 16 oz. We will also have our 24 oz. reusable glass tumblers.
We make our boba 100% from scratch! Because of that, our boba pearls have no food coloring added. They are simply tapioca starch, brown sugar, and water!Â
Store bought boba pearls are pre-made, which means they are dyed (adding the black color), processed, have added preservatives, and then boiled at a boba shop.
All of our fruit teas are vegan. We will also occasionally have oatmilk milk teas and likely always have oatmilk alternative for brown sugar boba and Korean strawberry milk.
Once you choose your drink, you will also get to choose your topping. We will always have our made from scratch boba and then 1-2 other toppings (typically fruit jellies or popping), but you don’t have to have a topping and can just drink it as is!
“Boba” can refer to either the drink or the topping. Boba pearls/balls are a main topping for milk teas. Boba pearls are made from cassava root which is a starch that is mixed with water and sugar to make the soft & chewy pearls (which we make fresh in house!)
These are all nicknames for the drink. “Bubble” refers to the shaking of the drink. Boba tea is referring to the topping & drink. “Boba” is just a quick, shortened name for the drink. They are all (typically milk) tea drinks with toppings (typically boba pearls)
Because of their size, boba balls can be considered a choking hazard. It is recommended that those age 4 and under do not consume boba balls. Health wise, there are articles claiming that boba is dangerous to consume. The reason people believe that boba is dangerous is because we don’t digest it very well. However, boba is just as difficult to digest as any typical starchy carb.
There are 3 main reasons people typically have upset stomachs after drinking boba: the boba itself, the sugar content, or being lactose intolerant.
Boba: some shops do not strain and rinse their boba well; that will cause an upset stomach because that means there’s still a lot of starch left over in your drink. It could also be the quality of the boba itself. Shelf-stable boba requires additives which some people may be sensitive to.
Our solution: We make boba from scratch, so there is none of that to worry about! We have no additives and we properly strain and rinse our boba so we get out the starch from sitting in the soaking syrup.
Sugar content: Some people may just get headaches and bloating from sugar when it’s too much.
Our solution: Our drinks are not overly sweet (but keep in mind these are still a dessert-type drink). People say our drinks are 50% sweetness of most other boba shops.
Lactose intolerant, our solution: We have an oatmilk alternative for our brown sugar boba & Korean strawberry milk as well as non-dairy drinks.
Starting March 1 2025, we will no longer have a physical location. Now, we will be looking into doing farmers markets and events as well as catering. All updates will be on our Instagram @TheBobaBarTN.
We are currently looking into farmers markets and events and will always keep y’all updated on our Instagram @TheBobaBarTN.
We are only currently looking into farmers markets right now, so there is no set schedule yet, but we have a few in mind we’d like to be at and are hoping to be at an avent once a week, maybe sometimes 2.
The best way to reach us is through our email, [email protected] OR on Instagram direct message @TheBobaBarTN
For all important information and updates, our Instagram is the best way to keep up to date @TheBobaBarTN. We will try to keep all updates here as well, but Instagram is the most accurate information (no instagram account required to see our posts, just go to instagram.com/thebobabartn).
Because we have to make most drinks in a commercial kitchen then transport them to a pop-up event, we can’t have our entire menu every time. We will have rotating flavors, but have a few staples. We plan on permanently keeping the classic, Thai tea, a fruit tea (rotating between strawberry, lychee, peach, & mango), Korean strawberry milk, and brown sugar boba. We will likely have 1-3 other flavors– some seasonal, some from our old menu. If you’d like to know exact drinks we’ll have for the event, you can feel free to message us on Instagram beforehand!
Part of the rotation may include:
-From normal old menu: matchas, taro milk tea, lychee milk tea, jasmine milk tea, peach milk tea, mango milk tea, coconut milk tea, wintermelon milk tea, wintermelon fruit tea
-From seasonal menu: Biscoff Boba, lavender milk tea, honey rose milk tea, lychee rose green tea, peach passion sunset, strawberries cookies & cream, chai milk tea
We will also have seasonal flavors occasionally (i.e. for autumn pumpkin & cinnamon, for winter peppermint, blue curacao for summer, etc.). This is also just what we have in mind, it isn’t a set thing and we may have more options!
Because we have a set amount we make of each, drink flavors are limited. Since we are new to doing pop-up events, we will not know how much of what to make until the first few times we do markets, so please be patient with us as we figure out how much to make based off popularity. Even then, drinks will always be a limited amount per flavor, but by a certain point we hope to figure out how much of each to make so it’s at least more accurate.
For toppings, we will always have our made from scratch boba. We will also have 1 or 2 other toppings for those who don’t want boba but still want a topping in their drink. That will be rotating (lychee, mango, passionfruit, rainbow, popping, and other new ones we may have never even had on our regular menu!).
It will vary per event, but as long as events allows it, we can take cash, card, Venmo, Cashapp
Yes, we will still sell our tumblers but we’re not sure yet if we’re allowed to refill a tumbler brought back. We will look into it if anyone is interested but for now, we just plan on selling brand new tumblers with drink included until we run out.
We will not. We both have many passions and we like to venture trying out new things. Unfortunately, having a permanent location will not allow us to do that. However, we love serving boba and love our customers, so we plan on doing that as long as we possibly can 🙂
